Frequently Asked Questions
Accepting new clients (18+) for virtual psychotherapy and counselling in person in Guelph and virtually across Ontario.
Is counselling for me?
Great question! In my humble (and perhaps biased!) opinion counselling is for anyone who is looking for support in better understanding themselves, making a change, processing past experiences, developing coping skills, or just looking for a place to be seen and heard. Whether there is something (or somethings) that you are particularly struggling with, you want to get more in touch with who you are or you want to work on your personal development, counselling is a vehicle for healing and growth. There is no shame in seeking counselling. On the contrary, it takes a lot of strength and commitment to take this step.
What education, training and experience do you have?
I have a Bachelor of Social Work (2015) and a Bachelor of Arts (Health, Aging & Society) (2015) from McMaster University. I started working in Social Services in 2014 and opened my private practice in 2023. What are your fees?
My fees are $130 per 50 minute session. I offer a limited number of sliding scale appointments at any given time. Please contact me to discuss your needs. If these slots are full, I can support you in connecting with other options. I believe that finances should never be a barrier to service. Session fees are payable by e-transfer or most major credit cards.
Currently, my sliding scale availability is full.
Documentation is charged at my hourly rate (min. $65).
Will my health insurance cover your services?
Many employer extended health plans cover the services of a Registered Social Worker. Look for Social work/Social worker/RSW/Registered Social Worker in your benefits package. Some packages will list general “psychotherapy” or “counselling”. Please contact your insurer to ensure coverage. If your benefits booklet specifies an MSW, my services will not be covered.
How long do I need to
be in counselling for?
This can vary based largely what you’re hoping to get out of the therapy experience. For some folks, they have goals they would like to achieve in shorter periods, whereas others are on a lifelong healing journey. Typically, I work longer term with folks on deeper struggles such as sense of self and trauma processing. If you are looking for shorter periods in therapy, I may not be the right fit for you. At our first session, we will establish goals as per your identified needs. Once those goals are completed, services will end. Some folks choose to continue on in therapy if they have additional goals they would like support in achieving.
How do I contact you? What happens next?
To start, please email me at victoria@findingyourownway.ca or call me at 226-208-1504 to schedule your free consultation. In a consultation, I will contact you by phone at a scheduled time, ask you to tell me a little about what brought you here and what you are hoping to work towards. You will decide whether my services are a good fit for you.
In your first session, we will complete some administrative paperwork and we will start to establish your goals. In each subsequent session, we will work toward your goals using a variety of techniques and strategies.
