  • Individual Psychotherapy

Currently offering in person counselling & psychotherapy in Guelph and virtual therapy across Ontario.

I primarily support folks healing from trauma related to interpersonal violence & societal oppression. This might include experiences of physical, sexual and/or emotional abuse in childhood, in relationships or otherwise. Sometimes these experience feel obvious, and other times, folks have a sense that something is off. Folks struggling with these types of trauma often struggle with feeling disconnected, disembodied, both overwhelmed and numb. You may be struggling with shame or blame. You may struggle to trust yourself. And this is just the tip of the iceberg.

My approach to trauma involves three separate and intertwined layers - increasing a felt sense of safety within, processing the experiences at the root of the distress and rebuilding the life you long for. There is hope and it is not your fault.

Although I have a particular interest in supporting folks with trauma and body image, I can also support folks in the following areas:

Body shame and Body image concerns

    Coping with chronic health concerns

    Disordered Eating including Binge Eating

    Emotional regulation

    Identity exploration (sexuality/gender)

    Intimate Partner Violence

    Life transitions

    Relationship challenges

    Self Esteem/Self Worth

    Shame

    Trauma

  • Body Liberation Counselling

Currently offering in person counselling and psychotherapy in Guelph and virtual therapy across Ontario.

I am a firm believer that you are worthy of love and respect in the body you are in, regardless of what messages you may be getting out in the world. I also recognize that believing this can be really hard!! There are so many things that get in the way of us being able to attune to our own bodies. Using my professional, personal and educational experience, I can support you in building compassion for and reclamation of your body. We will break down the impacts of diet culture and other oppressions that show us how to hate our bodies, write and rewrite your body story to carry forward in your everyday life and work on coming home to your body.

“and i said to my body. softly. ‘i want to be your friend.’ it took a long breath. and replied ‘i have been waiting my whole life for this.”

  • Practice Approaches

I utilize a variety of approaches, working with each person to meet your individual needs. This always starts with the foundation of the healing relationship. So we will take some time to build safety and trust in the therapeutic relationship. Ultimately, the therapy process is about a relationship between two people bringing their knowledge and experience to the table to find a way forward. Your wisdom is centred, and I will use my experience to guide you in using and building that wisdom.

Overall, my work is primarily framed by triphasic trauma approaches, and approaches that integrate body, emotion and cognitive based healing. I am guided by Trauma Focussed, Feminist, Queer, Self-Compassion, Mindfulness and Body Liberation frames.

A social justice orientation is important to me. I am dedicated to utilizing and developing anti-racist/anti-colonial, queer positive, feminist and fat positive approaches through ongoing self-development, training and supervision.
